NWS Forecaster Discussion
125 fxak69 pafg 172232 afdafg Northern Alaska forecast discussion National Weather Service Fairbanks Alaska 232 PM akdt Wednesday Mar 17 2010 Discussion... Models in good agreement with a 549 dm upper level high anchored over western Alaska is keeping much of the state cloud free through this evening. A surface 1040 mb high will persist over the Canadian Yukon and slowly weaken on Thursday. West Coast...clouds will be on the increase for parts of the West Coast on Thursday as a 959 mb low and its associated front move into the western Bering this evening. The upper level high will block this system and the only chance for precipitation will be from Saint Lawrence Island west Thursday night into Friday morning. The front will elongate and dissipate on Friday as high pressure builds back in over the area. North Slope...850 mb temperatures will moderate on Thursday and high pressure over the Arctic will keep things quiet for the North Slope through Sat. A thermal gradient exists near Cape Lisburne with local south winds to 40 miles per hour through tomorrow. Interior...high pressure will keep the interior clear with above average temperatures with little/no precipitation for much of the the forecast area. && Afg watches/warnings/advisories...
