Discussion...approaching upper level shortwave...associated dry 
front...and a few middle and high clouds will bring additional 
cooling to the region today. Flat upper ridge then prevails through 
Sat as another shortwave trough moves through the Pacific northwest Friday/Friday night. 
Little overall temperature change is forecast Friday...then a couple of degrees 
warming over the weekend as shortwave ridge amplifies along the 
West Coast a bit. The ridge amplification is due to a digging trough 
in the east Pacific along about 140w sun...which develops into a 
closed system about 130w/32n Monday. Both the Euro and GFS handle 
this trough similarly...with only minor timing differences. This 
places central California in a developing southerly flow aloft by Tuesday. 
The Euro then taps some subtrop moisture into the system...and 
brings it into central California Tuesday night and Wednesday. The GFS is quite 
similar with this evolution as mentioned above...thus confidence 
in a changing weather pattern by middle-week is above average. While 
changes are indicated by Wednesday...the threat of a winter storm for 
Holiday travel is extremely low.

Aviation...areas of MVFR in haze and mist in the San Joaquin 
Valley...with local IFR until 17z Thursday. Otherwise VFR 
conditions will prevail over the central California interior 
through 12z Friday.

Air quality issues... 
on Thursday November 20 2008... unhealthy for sensitive groups in 
Kings County. Fireplace/wood stove burning is prohibited in 
Fresno... Kern and Kings counties.
