Discussion...our spell of 80-degree weather in the sj valley was 
finally broken today...thanks to a deeper marine layer along the 
coast...a light onshore flow and a weakening ridge of high pressure 
aloft. A dry cold front will move into the central California interior 
Thursday. Prior to its arrival...a SW flow aloft will bring some 
high clouds into the central California interior tonight and Thursday 
morning. In the wake of this front Thursday afternoon...temperatures will 
be 3-7 degrees cooler than today and there will be an increase in 
onshore flow. Low clouds will form at the south end of the sj valley 
and adjacent north facing slopes of the Tehachapi Mountains Thursday 
night and linger into Friday morning. Otherwise...Friday will be a 
dry and seasonably cool day as a short wave ridge builds in over California. 


The weekend will bring dry weather and slightly milder afternoon 
temperatures across the County Warning Area. Although the upper level ridge is flattened 
by a trough passing through the Pacific northwest Friday night...it will rebuild 
over central California this weekend. Our weather will remain dry and 
relatively mild into early next week as this ridge stays in control. 


All of the medium range models are now forecasting a change to 
a potentially wet pattern across the central California interior during the 
middle to later part of next week. Although the Euro and GFS differ 
on timing...both solutions bring two separate storms southward from 
the Gulf of Alaska during this period. If successive runs of the 
long range models continue to show this trend...probability of precipitation may need to 
be added or increased on days 6 and 7.

Aviation...areas of MVFR in haze and mist in the San Joaquin 
Valley...with local IFR from 12z to 17z Thursday. Otherwise VFR 
conditions will prevail over the central California interior 
through 06z Friday.

Air quality issues... 
on Thursday November 20 2008... unhealthy for sensitive groups in 
Kings County. Fireplace/wood stove burning is prohibited in 
Fresno... Kern and Kings counties.
