NWS Forecaster Discussion
346 fxus63 kfgf 210955 afdfgf Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Grand Forks ND 355 am CST Friday Nov 21 2008 Short term... surface high at 98z over western Minnesota...lingering clouds remain over bde- bji-adc areas with the rest of the forecast area clear with temperatures around zero. High will slide east today with southeast wind from the cold high over the area and thus will side on the cool side on MOS. Expect lingering clouds in the east to gradually dissipate with sunshine over the forecast area today. Next system is a vorticity maximum moving over eastern Idaho/SW Montana. This short wave will move east and then southeast across South Dakota tonight. Models remain in good agreement in keeping an area of light snow from northwest South Dakota into southeast ND...with northern edge of any very light snow possibly skirting the far southern ND mainly in the 00z-06z time period. Otherwise...very dry air north of this system will keep skies mainly clear through most of the night. On Saturday....some middle and high level moisture will work over the area as 850 mb warm advection moves in ahead of next system which will move to the north of the border Sat night-Sunday. Very little lift associated with this system so precipitation potential is very weak. Sunday night will see short wave and trough dig into Minnesota and then shift east Monday-Monday night with brief shot of cold advection. Will maintain some flurries-snow showers mainly over northwest Minnesota Sun night into a part of Monday. Long term... quiet weather into middle week with short wave riding and warmer air moving in through Wednesday. No changes needed. && Aviation... winds to turn south-southeast today 10-15 kts in eastern ND but be light in Minnesota. Skies mainly clear with some high or middle clouds in the far south (fargo area) tonight. && Fgf watches/warnings/advisories... ND...none. Minnesota...none. && $$ Riddle
