marine weather discussion
NWS ocean prediction center Washington DC
830 PM EDT Mon 6 Oct 2008
.Forecast discussion: major features/winds/seas/significant
.Weather for North Atlantic ocean W of 50w from 30n to 50n.
A low pres cntr about 250 nm E of Georges Bank...will move off
to the NE and rapidly intensify overnight thru Tue. Stg rdg will
bld se over the ofshr wtrs thru the fcst prd. Weak low pres is
expctd to dvlp inland near the se CST late Thu...then persist
into early Sat.
Blv the dvlpg low will far enuf E of the ofshr wtrs so that
gales over the ern part of the balt Cyn to Hague line area can
be dropped for the overnite prd. Gem/GFS/UKMET mdls are
supporting the low near the se CST...and the 18z GFS is dropping
the idea of a sfc low movg into mid Atlc area by Fri mrng and
taking an ascd fnt into the ofshr wtrs. So blv the 18z GFS can
be favored for the entire fcst prd now.
Given that the 18z GFS has come into better agreemnt now with
the other Med rng mdls for Fri and Sat...so the 18z wavewatch
iii mdl guidance will be followed pretty closely thru the fcst
prd.
