Los Angeles County Mountains excluding the Santa Monica Range

Special Weather Statement  Statement as of 9:12 am PDT on October 11, 2008

... Santa Ana winds expected Sunday through Tuesday...

... Patchy frost possible in wind protected locations...

High pressure developing over Nevada will cause Santa Ana winds to
develop across the area Sunday through Tuesday. The strongest of
these winds is expected to be Monday and Tuesday mornings where
gusts as high as 60 mph are possible in the mountains and 45 mph
below passes and canyons of Los Angeles and Ventura County coast
and valleys.

Very low humidities dropping into the single digits will accompany the
winds. The combination of gusty winds... low humidities... and dry
fuels will create a critically high fire danger risk across the
area.

The offshore flow will bring warmer temperatures to the area
through the middle of next week. However... the warming trend will
be gradual... especially inland. Sunday and Monday the warmest
temperatures will be at the coast with highs in the upper 70s to
mid 80s... while the valleys remain mostly in the 70s to lower 80s.
The mountains and deserts will be even cooler with highs in the
upper 50s to around 70. By Tuesday and Wednesday... highs will Jump
Up several degrees with low 90s expected in the valleys and 70s
and 80s elsewhere.

Early morning lows will be quite chilly in wind protected
locations where patchy frost is possible. Locations such as
interior San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties... as well as
the Antelope Valley will see temperatures dipping into the high
20s for a few hours each morning through Tuesday. Even some
coastal valley locations in Ventura and Los Angeles County such as
Ojai and Malibu canyon will drop into the mid 30s.
